It took twelve months to see the last Super Mario Bros. any% speedrun World Record that was held by “Darbian” from the US, fall by the same player himself. His record was 4: 56.878 at the time and has just been slightly improved to reach 4: 56.528, a long-term work that seems almost impossible to beat.
In the world of speedruns, every second counts. Or rather, every thousandth of a second counts. this is a fact more true on the Super Mario Bros Universe, where speedrunners have already pushed all the records to such a level that the possibilities for improvement seems almost non-existent. And yet “Darbian”, a native of Virginia, has managed to improve his previous record after months of effort and after more than … 27,400 attempts! Surely more than you have ever tried in your life.
After breaking this record again, “Darbian” explained that it would be very difficult to do better knowing that there are only two specific points in the game where his times of passage can be improved. And despite this titanic difficulty the player managed to say “I give this record 50% chance it can be beat again this year”. Just unbelievable.
